Those who say that writing skills are not that important
anymore are probably referring to only grammar and
spelling. They are likely tired of a ‘grammar police’ telling
them that they will not score an A just because they placed
the apostrophe where it was not needed.
There are two things here to take into consideration:
First, grammar exists to ensure that we can communicate
and understand each other, not to make our lives difficult;
but you will be misunderstood frequently, if you ignore
grammatical rules
Second, writing is not just about grammar and spelling; it is
also about style, tone, and punctuation. It is about the
correct choice of words so you can influence and engage
your audience.
What a learner needs to know is not just how to string a
series of words together, but how to make them shine.
It is with these ends in view that this little resource has
been prepared. It features a sequence of writing ‘drills’ that
provide ample writing practise for the learner.
It is my sincere hope, that this book will find its way into
the hands of learners for whom this book is intended.
